Before moving to Los Angeles in November 2013, I did my internet homework on LA. I wanted to make sure that I enjoyed the city and didn’t take it for granted. Luckily I had my eyes open one day on Facebook. In my News Feed, I saw this really great photograph of a restaurant in LA and the Facebook notification/tagline that read “T.J. liked Discover Los Angeles’ photo…”

Discover Los Angeles? Huh? Godsend.

I quickly searched the page and it was exactly what I had been looking for. Discover Los Angeles is awesome. The site gives you a breakdown of each area of LA and tells you about all of the attractions: everything from art, nature hikes, music, sports, to food and dining. I instantly bookmarked it in my browser and it’s been a helpful tool ever since.

One really great part of Discover Los Angeles’ Facebook page is their “Photo of the Day.”  It’s pretty self-explanatory but they will take someone’s Instagram photo from an attraction in Los Angeles and describe the location in detail. For a while in early 2014, I had been hankering to get out and do a nice hike and pretty soon Discover Los Angeles’ Photo of the Day was of the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook. Sold.

I Googled it to get a little more information and then headed over. It has a pretty intimidating set of stairs but it’s worth it as the view from the top is amazing. I love how the clouds rendered with the D700 and Tiffen ND filters. The images felt a little gritty and tangible, and I liked that. Kudos to California on having an amazing sky:
