Is there a female version of the word, “bromance?”

They are besties, BFF, BFFAE, thick as thieves, two peas in a pod...and any other cliche or acronym that describes close friends. They've known each other their whole lives and call each other sisters, family.

At the time of this set, I had just gotten into Photography and I was coming up with any ideas I could think of as an excuse to create photographs.  Thinking of Jackie and Nikki, knowing their relationship, an idea came to mind to create a set that partially mocked, but that would ultimately honor their friendship. They were up for it.

I wanted it to be bright and bold.  These images were colorfully loud on purpose. It just occurred to me that I should let you know who each of the ladies are visually. Jackie = blue.  We wandered around downtown Stamford, CT just outside of the Stamford Town Center and eventually near the Magestic Theatre. In the middle of the set you’ll notice a few images of the two hugging and Nikki not seeming too happy about it.

I don't think it's a normal "thing" or character trait for her, but Nikki didn't seem to be comfortable being touchy-feely with Jackie.  Not in an unfriendly way, but in a, "it's hot outside and you're photographing me," kind of way. I noticed it earlier in the session but said nothing. I just kept shooting. But then I decided to bring it back intentionally just to see what would happen.  I turned to Jackie saying,

"I want you to hug her, hold her close, and don't let her go." Jackie hammed it up quite nicely and I promise you all of Nikki's reactions were natural.

The day ended with an ice cream bit. I'll admit, it was a little cheesy, but I had the series of images in mind from the beginning:

"What's something a best friend does for you?"

Shares a scoop of ice cream when you've dropped one of yours...

I am thankful for this day and these ladies having a sense of humor. Fun times:
