Lines and Laughs

Back in 2018 - yep, I’m adding this page to my website in 2021 - I continued to photographs a lot of fun events over at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center in Little Tokyo, LA. The Comedy Comedy Festival was always a smash, performing at the Aratani Theatre. I had a great time in 2016 first, being introduced to the Festival and slipping back in to capture more in 2018 was a breeze.

This night, on stage, was a great show entitled “Picture This!” A very cool concept: comedians and storytellers speak on stage while pro animators have a tablet and projector set up just off stage and would quickly hand animate images in real time. These images would add to, shape, mimic, exaggerate, and increase the hilarity of the stories at least ten fold.

Jenny Yang and Brandi Posey (who I know I’d met at an event in LA sometime before this, but can’t remember where) - awesome hostesses for the night.

Eugene Cordero - who provides a voice on Star Trek Lower Decks, a show my friend Kayla Pavia works on. LA is small.
Aperna Nancherla - who’s gone on to do some great stuff. Recently (2021) saw her in Season 2 of Amazon’s Modern Love.
Daniel Dae Kim - you might know him from that tiny show called “Lost". He’s recently (2021) appeared on the shows New Amsterdam and The Premise.

Hopefully, I can come back around to get all the names and faces included. Like I said, I’m posting this page three years later. I hope the essence and energy of the night come across in the images. That’s always my main goal. Enjoy!
